Since we always have a day off school to honor George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, we wanted to make sure that you knew a lot about them.  Unfortunately, when this was typed, all of the paragraphs, capital letters and punctuation marks were omitted!

 

·        Underline 3 times all the letters that should be capitalized.

·        Put in all necessary punctuation marks.

·        Put a sign to show where each new paragraph should begin.

george washington was born on february 22 1732 in westmoreland county virginia his family owned plantations worked by african american slaves at the end of his life george washington freed his slaves when young george grew up he became a farmer and then a land surveyor whose job was to meaure land later he became a soldier in a virginia regiment at the time america was a colony belonging to a faraway country named england many americans didn’t want to be part of england anymore they felt that england was treating them unfairly george washington benjamin franklin thomas jefferson and other americans wanted to form and rule their own nation in 1776 thomas jefferson wrote the declaration of independence to tell england why america wanted to be free but england did not want to give america freedom so england and america went to war this was was called the revolutionary war or the war for independence george washington was the general in charge of the american army he was a strong smart leader and america won the war a new country was born called the united states of america many people wanted george washington to be king of the new country but he felt it was wrong for america to have a king in 1789 george washington was elected to be the first president at the time the american flag had 13 stars arranged in a circle each star stood for a state as the united states grew more states and stars were added every february we celebrate george washingtons birthday and abraham lincolns birthday on presidents day washington d c is the capitalof the united states named for george washington it is where the government of the united states meets and where the president lives in washington d c  you can climb the tall pointed washington monument and look out over the whole city george washingtons picture can be found on quarters and one dollar bills
