| 2. Each country began to build up its supply of weapons. Germany increased the size of its navy to compete with England. | |

3. Germany accepted responsibility for starting the war and was penalized $33,000,000 in damages to other nations. |
| 4. The League of Nations was formed. | |
| 5. The alliances brought many countries into the war. Russia came to the aid of Serbia. Germany then declared war on Russia. Germany attacked Belgium. Great Britain entered the war to help Belgium and France. |
